Today is All Souls Day. It’s mostly a Catholic thing. You’re supposed to say a prayer for the dead, well, for the souls of the dead. You can put money in a Novena card and professional prayers will say prayers for your loved ones. I think it’s worth the investment.
Most days I wake up believing I have a fairly good grasp of life’s basic truths, but then I leave the house and see what people do and how they spend their time and money and I realize just how much in life can’t be explained. It makes me sad because this unexplainable phenomenon really signals that we are generally becoming dumber as a species and that we are sheep who can be driven to action by hipsters we hear or see on a smartphone. On Halloween people are willing to be scared for a day, but I scare the crap out of myself nearly every day … By opening a book. I’ve seen a lot of men die, in strange ways, gross ways, I-never-saw-that-coming ways and super-sad, that-guy-didn’t-deserve-to-die ways.
